Is Wankelt Wintour?
Not only is she old enough to go through life drinking tea and playing tennis, but things are also not going well with Condé Nast, the iconic publishing empire of Vogue. The company seemed untouchable, with titles like Vogue, W, Vanity Fair being the biggest player in the magazine world. Their office, a brand new building in the new World Trade Center, proudly towers above the city. When I'm in New York, I feel the urge to bow a little when I see the slender needle sticking out above everything.
But like many magazines, the titles of Condé Nast are also struggling. So much so that a number of magazines are for sale. Golf Digest, W, and Brides could be yours if you pay enough. And seven floors of the beautiful building will be rented out to third parties to compensate for the loss of 120 million dollars.
According to Condé Nast's CEO Sauerberg, Anna Wintour remains unscathed, although I wonder if the new tenants will also respect her ‘I-stand-alone-in-the-elevator-policy’. But hey, no one has ever become worse from a little lesson in humility.
