Why a weekend away with colleagues is a great idea
In case you missed it: your editors were causing a ruckus in the southern part of the country last weekend. Mestreech the craziest. Oh no, that was Eindhoven. Anyway, a mini road trip to Simoon's hometown. A trip that should have been made much earlier, if only to see where they get that eyebrows so fleeky done. Working together all week and then also sleeping together? Sounds intensive, but at times it's quite a grand plan. And this is why:
The anticipation
These kinds of conversations are genuinely good for team building. Where do we stop for coffee? Elke, are you the car DJ? Should I bring Ingo the Flamingo? Who doesn't snore? That's who I want in the room! Anyone want a tempura seaweed snack for the car or does that stink? Can you put that garlic sausage in an airtight bag?
You get to know each other in a different way
A small selection of things I've discovered this weekend:
- Simone eats nachos. With cheese. After ten in the evening. Yes really, I saw it.
- By the way, she's really into the songs ‘Patsergedrag’ and ‘Gass’ (you know: ‘Gass, I pull up in that car, fast’/’Left lane gas’/’Mandem Mad’).
- I finally understand where Lil's fines come from.
- People seem surprised that I can shower in ten minutes. If I have to. Preferably not.
- Speaking of showering: Elke really does it in two to three minutes. She plays the song ‘Break You Off’ by The Roots and before the song ends, she's drying off. Insane.
- Once Lil is over her sleep, it becomes really difficult to get a few more hours that night. Same goes for me.
- We're all really into the vegetable chips and chocolate chip cookies from Abel's Deli.
- Apparently, I also snored. Of course, I don't believe that.
- In a chicken nugget from the McDonald's there are said to be 40 ingredients, according to Simone.
- ‘I secretly danced with you’ is quite a nice song.
Because you get to know Els
Okay, in our case. Els is Simone's mother. I've never met such a cute enthusiastic woman in my life. Instagram husband? Not needed if you have Els. Goodness gracious. Which brings me to the next point.
You finally have cool photos of you together
In a different background than just the work environment. Also a real point on the list. With kind regards with a soft G from Elsje.
If something is bothering you at work, this is the right moment to speak up
It goes just a bit easier in your outfit on the couch with three glasses of wine. The mutual respect will only grow.
Because you see each other in your purest form
In your little underwear on the couch. Without eyeliner and other makeup. With morning hair. If that doesn't create unity, I don't know what will.
You get it: actually, there's only profit to be gained during a weekend away together. And if you really want to do it right, you sleep in the Dormio Resort in Maastricht. With outdoor sauna, jacuzzi, and open-air shower. Guaranteed laughter and fun.
