Why it's cool that Glennis Grace is participating in America’s Got Talent

Good, perhaps not entirely fair: Glennis is not American AND she is already a professional singer. Still, she gets to participate in America’s Got Talent. Super exciting for our Dutch Glen. Suddenly, you find yourself nervously standing right in front of Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel, Mel B and Simon Cowell. Not the least of them. But Glennis has nothing to worry about, because she has plenty of talent.

She has a voice that is hard to believe, and then she also sings the beautiful song Run To You by all-time favorite Whitney Houston. About the song, GG says: ‘Everything came together. Whitney never sang this song live herself. It was five years after her death. Emotions were released in me. What do you think, she is the reason I started singing.’

The jury listens breathlessly to her Whitney performance. So do we. Afterwards, Simon says: ‘You are an absolute artist.’ According to Heidi, she sounds exactly like Whitney. And Mel B thinks she looks stunning as well. True that.

She hears ‘yes’ four times and is now unanimously through to the next round. Yes, of course, she can sing. But you still have to do it. And isn’t Glen the ultimate example of chasing your big dreams? And doesn’t she show how hard you have to work for your big dreams? Not always hoping that you will make it in big America, but just going to America to try to make it there. Not thinking about your dreams, but doing your dreams. Not doubting, just go.

Look, she could just stay here in the Netherlands singing that eternal ‘Afscheid’ at all kinds of parties and earn her neat euros. But she wants more. In America, in the land where it happens. She wants to become a star there. She is going for a global audience. Impressive, right? We will keep supporting you, Glennis. Even if it’s just because you are such an example.

And of course, you are through with such a crystal-clear performance as this:
