Why we need to sleep more

Sunday morning I woke up at ten o'clock. Ten o'clock! Quite a decent time if you crawled into bed at six after finishing the tequila bottle. But that wasn't entirely the case, I had binged The Crown and was in bed by twelve. Then you are officially elderly (or otherwise well on your way) or you excel in the field of professional sleeping. At least, that's the first thing I think.

I also felt a bit awkward, as if someone had caught me. The only witness to my lazy day without reason was my love, so that was all fine, but still I looked a bit shyly around me. You never know if someone saw that I was still lying in bed at ten o'clock on a Sunday morning, stinking without a hangover. Indeed, that sounds absurd and it is. I have every right to lounge in bed at ten o'clock on a Sunday morning without a hangover.

Therefore: the reasons why we should spend more time in bed.

1. If you sleep too little, you get fatter. You can actually just stop reading now and head straight to bed. Put on your big flannel pajamas and sleep for hours, hours, HOURS to wake up slim. Or at least not fatter, that's already something.

2. You become more attractive. Another thing. Why would you stay up all night and get too little sleep? Your skin becomes dull, your eyes are puffy, you get dark circles, and collagen breaks down, making your skin look less smooth and tight. A Swedish study shows that after two (really: TWO) nights you are already seen as less attractive. To bed, to bed, said Thumbelina.

3. The desire to have some nice sex increases. You can hit him with that if he doesn't want to go to bed with you.

4. You live longer. That earns bonus points and bonus years too.

5. Generally, you experience life a bit more well-rested. Which is quite logical, but also brings additional benefits. You are alert, sharp, cheerful, positive... Hey, actually you are one big walking success formula.

Sleep well. I'm scheduling at least nine hours per night for next weekend. Looking forward to it already.
