Words that give you spontaneous dyslexia

Or was it dyslexia? from which you get

Almost my entire family is dyslexic. Yes, I also find it a miracle that I ended up in journalism. Secretly, I still suspect my mother of having a little chat with the milkman. “Look, do you write this with a d or a t?” I hear it on average a few times a week. But I can tell you: even grammar nazis make mistakes. Time to bare it all. Don’t ask me how, but I always type these fuckers of words wrong.

Armchair

Such a word that gives you spontaneous spots on your neck. Although I hear from several people in the editorial team that this one is tricky, so take comfort in the fact that you are not the only one.

Tagliatelle

The problem lies in the l after the g. You know what? Just pasta.

Intern
I wrote intern for years. Or something. Intern? What a terrible word.

Wallet

Since I was young, this word makes me hyperventilate. Here it comes. Quickly typed.

Portommonee. See? Here I go again. PORTO? Come on, be normal.

Pyjama

Eh, see above. By now I have it reasonably under control, but often this friend also goes wrong.

Guacamole

They could have made that Mexican avocado a bit easier too. I vote for avocado oil.

Create

Was it one, two, or three e's? And where do those damn dots go?

Skiing

Another thing. May doesn’t understand this one either. Why do you write skiing with one e then? Illogical.

Dinner

Hands up if you secretly also doubt whether you write ‘dinner’ or ‘diner’ because we are totally ver-englished you know. Always a kind of error.

Dyslexia

Yes, but this is just embarrassing. If a dyslexic asks you to spell dyslexia and you come up with ‘uh D-Y-S-L-E-C-T-I-A?’ YES IT IS WITH AN X HOW THEN?!

I’m shouting around here in the editorial team what we really find difficult / used to find difficult and ‘subscription‘ also turns out to be a classic, closely followed by ‘cappuccino’ and ‘pancake’. Or was it pancake? Yep, the Dutch language; no one said it would be easy...

For the speldodo’s among us, nice to immediately continue with: 13 Dutch words that I just really don’t understand.
