6 ways to make the most of your weekend

I don't know what your weekend looks like, but sometimes on Monday morning I think: pfff, did I even have a weekend? Saturday and Sunday are the days when we do everything we normally say we ‘don't have time’ for. Seeing family, doing laundry, cleaning up the mess in the house, doing something fun with friends, maybe going for a run, oh yes, and you haven't gotten around to that book in so long and – error.

Honestly: this routine of cramming everything into the weekend makes you feel just as exhausted on Monday morning as you did on Friday afternoon. But how do you find that balance within those 48 hours?

1. That work mode really turns off on Friday evening

Answer one last email: okay, but try to frame your weekend so that it starts around 6:00 PM on Friday evening. Those other emails can really wait until Monday. Easy.

2. Set that alarm on Saturday too

And no, I'm not talking about a 7 AM wake-up, but a 9 AM wake-up is actually quite fine too, right? Sleeping in too long robs you of precious time that you need to actually feel like you're living.

3. Don't save all your ‘crappy tasks’ for the weekend

Yes, you actually wanted to take those heels to the cobbler, go to the hairdresser, and maybe go for a run. That can also be done on a Thursday evening, right? The more you lighten your weekend load, the less pressure you'll feel in the 48 hours when you actually don't have to do anything.

4. Put that phone down for a moment

Unplug for a bit. No one has ever felt good from constantly refreshing Instagram. With this hack you'll actually get rid of your phone addiction in one go.

5. Schedule two hours per weekend for this...

Doing nothing. Literally: nothing. Maybe you take a bath. Paint your nails. Have a pampering session in the bathroom or cuddle with your cat or dog in the living room, whatever. As long as it makes you happy. It's the only way to hit the reset button for a moment.

6. Do something crazy

Monotony can make a weekend routinely boring. Have breakfast with something completely different than you normally would on the weekend, brush your teeth in the morning with your non-dominant hand, in short: step out of your comfort zone. Make your weekend different from the last one. Bet it gives you energy? Go get them, tiger.
