Applause for René Froger

Because when it comes to balls, well, Froger was at the front, you know, when it came to handing them out. Next to his wallpaper of golden records, since last year there’s also a pamphlet declaring him a well-known person with the most annoying advertisement of the year.
A performance to cherish must have thought Froger, because yesterday I was treated to an ‘encore’. And that came, it must be said, possibly even closer to the chapter brilliant.
I’m sharing the plot in case you haven’t seen it, because joining the conversation is a must when it comes to this Eye Love commercial.
We see a clumsy boy in a driving school car. Everything is a bit of a mess, because the best lad isn’t doing so well. Upon arriving at a zebra crossing, he nearly hits the best man crossing the street. And that man, indeed, is René Froger. Coincidence doesn’t exist.
Cheerful as René is, he peeks through the window, gives a thumbs up and says: ‘Go for it, okay.‘
The lad in question takes this literally, so he dashes off to the Eye Love store in a flash. And lo and behold, no, you won’t believe it but it’s really true, there stands René Froger again. Interested and jovial as he is, René says: ‘So? Did you pass?’ The boy blinks four times and replies: ‘Well… For my glasses, yes.’
Dear people, the fact that the Oscar nominations were already chosen before this commercial was aired is a big, huge loss. And that’s the truth.
