Oh no: a phobia for sushi

Carolien Spoor

The times I had a severe food poisoning, I can still remember extremely well, especially which food caused it. For years, I didn't dare to touch a sausage roll and it took a long time before I wanted to order vegetarian roti again. So when we were three people strong, deathly sick in bed on January 2nd thanks to the sushi from the day before, I was in blind panic. Sushi is our absolute favorite dish, so if I develop a phobia for it, that would be a complete disaster. And what should you always do when you fall off your bike? Exactly, get back in the saddle as quickly as possible. So as soon as we got home, a date night was immediately planned at our favorite sushi restaurant Sushi Samba: they have the freshest fish that melts in your mouth and flavor sensations that you would actually risk your life for. Fortunately, that phobia never came to be, as long as we stick to the best place in town.

My most favorite hobby at the moment? The search for vintage designer gems. Especially abroad, I scour all the flea markets in the vain hope that someone hasn't spotted theHermès bag of her grandmother and sells it for a pittance (by the way, this is a true story, but unfortunately, I wasn't the main character in this tale). In the meantime, I've also found my spots in Amsterdam where I score beautiful second-hand designer pieces for a nice price. Now, of course, I share everything with Amayzine, so I can't keep this from you: Thrift Shop Amsterdam. And they just received a whole load of beautiful Chanel and Hermès items. Unfortunately, this belt has already been confiscated by yours truly.

Four weeks in LA is good for a lot, except for your skin. I don't know how much chlorine is in the water or if it's gotten worse in combination with the heating, but my skin was completely dried out. I suddenly understand why those LA girls quickly resort to fillers to keep their faces a bit in shape. Fortunately, when I got home, I could almost immediately drive to Hannah Xperience Center for a facial boost. All the masks during the treatment were absorbed by my skin within seconds. Don't worry, sweet face, the Amsterdam tap water will hydrate you well again soon.

For 21 years, a large part of the Netherlands has been looking forward to Friends of Amstel Live, and until recently, I didn't belong to that group. Somehow, it always passed me by a bit, and I didn't really have a picture of it. But that changed last week. Why have you kept this hidden from me for so long? The unexpected duets between artists, incredibly relaxed and cheerful atmosphere plus high sing-along factor made me a fan in one fell swoop. From now on, those two weeks in January are written in big letters in my agenda. Dear Amayzine team: can I join you next year?
