Crying with the (Christmas) hat on: these are the sweetest Christmas commercials of 2019

3 Christmas commercials with a little dragon

Last year it was Frekkel the dog, this year it's Freddie the hedgehog that brings tears to my eyes. Or what do you think of Tommy's sarpassiejo (read: carpaccio) including grandpa Overkant: so sweet. Oh, and let's not forget this Christmas commercial from John Lewis with the cutest little dragon in the lead role. These days I do a happy dance when it's time for the commercial break. So if you've been binge-watching Netflix a bit too much in the past few days, I suggest you quickly check out the mini Christmas films below. Because to be honest: without Christmas commercials, it's not Christmas for me. Here they come.

Freddie the hedgehog
After last year's rainy puppy Frekkel, it's now the sweetest little hedgehog Freddie who plays the lead role in the Staatsloterij Christmas commercial. The main message? That winning that gigantic grand prize of 30 million can wait a bit longer when it comes to caring for an animal in need. Because if you're good to others, you'll naturally find happiness. With or without that bag of money.

Tommy's Christmas party
This is the first Christmas commercial from the new supermarket manager Ilse, who, along with her husband, is invited by their little son for a Christmas dinner in his room. They actually didn't want to do anything special this year, but the boy thinks very differently. He goes all out with his sarpassiejo (or carpaccio) and has, of course, made sure that the whole family, including grandpa Overkant, has received an invitation.

Dragon Edgar
Edgar's fire-breathing qualities are not exactly a good match for Christmas, and he messes up a few things, resulting in the cutest little dragon with the saddest face. But luckily, Edgar eventually finds a way with his girlfriend Ava ‘to show them how much you care’. All the best.

On the road with the fam
Where last year grandpa and his grandson were, this year it's a family that once again shares the message ‘good food is eating together’ through the PLUS commercial. What happens? In a rush, you see a family leaving the Christmas table to jump into the car with the Christmas menu including a tree. On the way to... Well, see for yourself. It's really very sweet.

Being together
Mother Lieke (We know the Jumbo family by now, right?) leaves for Tokyo on a business trip in the busy days before Christmas. While she looks forward to some quality time, father Bas panics completely, which ultimately turns out to be unnecessary. Lieke feels that being alone in the dark days before Christmas, far from her family, is not so ‘zen’ at all, because the anticipation of Christmas and all the preparations that come with it actually just mean being together, wherever in the world. Liehief.
