Gisele Bündchen finally reveals why she broke up with Leo

Leonardo DiCaprio and Gisele Bündchen

Let's go back to the year 2005. YouTube launched, Donald Trump married his Melania, and Jen divorced her Brad. But that last one wasn't the only break-up of the year. No, 2005 was also the year that top model Gisele Bündchen dumped Leo DiCaprio after six years of dating. And honestly: has anyone ever understood that decision? I mean: hello, we're talking about Leonardo DiCaprio here. Also known as Jack Dawson, and Romeo – of Juliet, yes – need we say more?

We understood the break between Jen and Brad, she ran off with Angelina (I was team Jennifer, how about you?), but Leo had had the image of a playboy for years and Gisele seemed to have finally tamed him. Six years with Leo by your side, I wouldn't say no to that. But why the final break-up then? After 14 years, we finally found out, because Gisele provided the revealing answer: Leo lacked depth. Yes, you read that right. Leo was dumped because he was superficial..

Okay, she did provide a bit more explanation. Gisele apparently suffered from anxiety and panic attacks and according to her, she didn't feel like she could share those panic attacks with him, which is why she suppressed them, making it worse. I can indeed imagine that you would want support from your partner in that situation. She realized that she didn't want to paralyze herself with too much drinking and smoking anymore, and she started to wonder if she was the only one searching for herself while he remained the same. The answer to that was unfortunately yes. That's it, the revealing answer. Leo was not supportive. That he loves a party, I'm not really surprised about. I think by now you have hundreds of pages of pictures of Leo on Google Images. luxury yachts with models in their twenties and expensive bottles of champagne..

Because that's what Leo has been doing since then. He is no longer the youngest, but his girlfriends seem to be getting younger and he never seems to keep them for long. Although his current girlfriend seems to be lasting longer: he has been with (now 21-year-old) Camila Morrone for almost a year and a half.

Still, I find this a bit disappointing. Acting is of course what he is good at, but I secretly hoped that he was a bit like Jack Dawson in real life. ‘If you jump, I jump’, right? Apparently, that's just a bit different in real life. Not that the chance was very realistic, but he is just not the Romeo for my Juliet. I'm still in denial and just put on Titanic again. Although I might be better off going for The Wolf of Wall Street. Apparently something more in his wheelhouse.

Let's not lose all hope in Leo right away, there are of course two sides to every story. Secretly, I hope for a counter-reaction from Leo, but he is probably too busy advocating for climate change with his own foundation. With that superficiality, it might not be as bad as it seems.
