It is the best time of the year for a hangover

Are you behaving and participating in ‘Dry January’ or are you secretly just hanging out under that bottle of wine every weekend? The latter would be better for you.
Or well, better for you in this time of year, because you can have a hangover in January with a clear conscience because it yields you more than in any other month. Not only because January means a new start again, so you can just forget those ‘old’ hangovers in the ‘old year’, no, January is actually super boring. And incredibly long. It lasts 31 dark days – 744 hours – clean on the hook. And so it is quite smart to hang out a bit hungover in your bed, for a day or so, a weekend or two, three. With Netflix.
On average, we drink about 14 glasses of alcohol per week per person over 18 years old. Not always, but sometimes it just gets out of hand. There’s a reason for that. Alcohol causes the neurons in your brain that hold you back and tame you to be ‘released’. In other words, you have a bit less inhibition, dare a bit more, act a bit crazy. In addition, the reward system in your brain is stimulated. At least 90 percent of the highly educated drink sometimes, compared to 67 percent of the lower educated. And if you’re going to drink anyway, do it now, because January… Sorry. We do not love you very much:
- It is an average of 3.1 degrees in January in our country, making it the COLDEST month of the year. Even in February, it gets a bit warmer. Stay inside, please.
- On average, it freezes for 13 days in this first month of the year. Again: stay inside, please.
- On average, the maximum temperature does not exceed 0 degrees for three days in January, which means: official ice days. Ice skating. Snow. Yay.
- The sun shines on average only 62 hours in the whole month. That comes down to about 1.4 hours of sunlight per day. Compare that with the month of May: then our yellow friend shines at least 6.8 hours a day on our pale faces.
- Of those 31 days, it rains or snows or hails on average 21 days.
So enjoy that ‘Dry June’ this year, you’ll benefit much more from it. That way you’ll see some sun, the outside world, and the cheerful summer in that month. We know it this year.
