Even about Kim Kardashian and psoriasis

Even about Kim Kardashian and psoriasis

When I discovered that Kim has the same skin disease as I do, I thought that was kind of cool. Not that a skin disease is cool, of course, just ask my seven-year-old self who was accused by classmates of having scabies (true story). But the fact that Kim K. just showed it in photos was a breath of fresh air. Nobody is perfect, not even a Kardashian, that seemed to be her message. It exists, it's there, you can't do anything about it, so why hide it? Cool, until I saw a video of her using her new foundation to cover up her psoriasis. I didn't quite understand that.

While Kim was showing how that covering up worked, people were praising her online, saying look how open she is about her psoriasis. Meanwhile, I was just thinking: huh, excuse me, and why? Look, you should know for yourself what you do and don't share with the world. But if you decide to be open about something like a skin disease, why then show your 146 million followers how easy it is to (your own marketed product) foundation conceal it? Is it just me or does this smell like a marketing trick?

I also recently read somewhere that product X was really the scrub of scrubs, because Kim Kardashian swore by it and that meant something, because she had skin problems herself. I've never met anyone who was scrubbing their psoriasis, but I can't even imagine how painful that feels. You should know that due to psoriasis, your cell division goes haywire, making your skin quite fragile and delicate. Just a nice scrub hadn't even crossed my mind.

Moral of the story: as cool as I thought Khloé was for not just photoshopping her stretch marks, I find Kim a bit less cool because she actually shows how to cover up imperfections. And I certainly don't flaunt my psoriasis to everyone, but imperfections, in my opinion, make us human. Not how you can camouflage them well.
