Moet bezoeken: Kyoto in Japan

You have mountains that you keep looking at (really!), beaches you want to emigrate to, and waterfalls you want to stand under, but don't forget the architectural masterpieces of cities. Nature may not have planned it that way, but humans have beautifully crafted it with their bare hands. And when Condé Nast Traveler lists you among the fifty most beautiful cities in the world, you know you want to go there. Kyoto was the imperial capital of Japan for a thousand years. How do you lose that status, you might wonder? The capital was the place from which the emperor ruled, and those emperors changed quite a few times. As far as we know, about fifty (!) times. You really have to be into temples and sacred places, by the way, because the city is almost bursting at the seams with culture and history. It is packed with UNESCO sights; you can see seventeen of them when you're there. But the combination with mountains (there they are again) seems to be magical as well. Actually, we have just one piece of advice: when in Japan, go to Kyoto.
