I have never seen so much money together in my life. The hundred euro bills are neatly stacked around me. The alarm keeps getting louder. To the left is the exit, to the right a bunch of hysterically screaming colleagues. HELLO, WHERE DO I GO, WHAT DO I DO, DO I NEED TO RUN??? HOW MUCH TIME DO WE HAVE LEFT?!?! ANNICK, LIL!!!

Going to an escape room with colleagues and the chance that you pee your pants is about ninety percent. Going to do a virtual reality game with a La Casa de Papel theme with colleagues increases that chance significantly. You get it: following in the footsteps of Tokyo, El Professor, and Nairobi (the latter is also totally my favorite by the way) was a bucket list thing. So off we went, with the girls towards my hometown Uutje, to join Virtual Reality Escape Room Time to split into two groups, solve hints and puzzles, and try to get that safe open as quickly as possible. With ‘Bella Ciao, bella ciao, bella CIAO CIAO CIAO’ playing in the background.

It was hysterical, it was beautiful. And robbing banks makes you freaking hungry, it turns out. Since it was a home game for me (and Annabelle by the way) in the Domstad, I had to come up with a special restaurant. And in the end, you can jump low or high, but everyone knows: the most fun, coziest restaurant street in Uutje is of course the Drieharingenstraat.

For a few months now, there is French Asian Kitchen (FAK) opened. A new place where ‘Fak the Calories’ hangs in light boards on the wall and they serve divine sushi + ‘Trump Gambas’ (from Donald, yes) with cotton candy hair. I mean. Eating out is just the best when it’s really an experience and that is definitely the case here. Come in, don’t look at your phone for the first ten minutes at FAK and you’ll get a free snack with your drink. The wine tastes just a bit too good, the platters of fresh fish, rice rolls, and dumplings are served at a perfect pace and the fries with caviar are to die for. Such an evening that you can lean back and know that everything will be alright.

You understand: if you’re looking for a fun outing with colleagues, friends, or family soon… Utrecht is where you need to be. First, rob a bank and then stuff yourself criminally at FAK. Joejoe!
