The 9 most beautiful beaches

What comes from afar tastes better, you would say. But I often find the beaches abroad a bit disappointing. Sometimes pebbles, sometimes it's very narrow, sometimes they don't have a beach club culture, and sometimes you can't swim because the current is too strong... No, our sea is fresh and you might bump into a jellyfish on the left or right, but our beaches aren't that bad. Since Sunday is anyway a day for a walk and the days when you can soak up the sun are coming up really quickly: a list of the finest Dutch beaches.

1. Ouddorp

This list is totally arbitrary anyway because these are my favorites and those of the editorial team, so which one do you put at the top? Let's go with Ouddorp, because I cherish beautiful memories of it. My childhood friend had a little house there and we had the coziest weeks with her and her lovely mother. And oh yes, I kissed there for the first time. That also contributes to the picture, but Ouddorp has a beautiful beach.

2. Zoutelande

To stay in ‘Zeeland’, another favorite: Zoutelande. My parents went there in the sixties and I once worked on the terrace of a hotel there. If you were the one I spilled a glass of beer on your lap on my first day of work: sorry again. Beautiful beach with a view of many ships, which I always find great as a sailor's daughter. A downside is the wooden posts in the surf (they are there to break the waves, so very important for safety, but they obstruct your view), but plus points are the hours of sunshine, because Zeeland has those in abundance.

3. Domburg

Dunes as they should be, beautiful beach and also many nice shops and restaurants. This is where (and still is) the old chic, and you understand that immediately when you are there.

4. Ameland

Heading north towards the islands. The beach of Ameland is 27 kilometers long. So whether you stay in Buren, Hollum, or Nes, you are quickly at the beach. Every year, Ameland receives the Blue Flag, the quality mark for a clean and safe beach. By the way, Dishoek has that too, no worries. This is also why you want to go to Ameland.

5. Schiermonnikoog

Or Schier, as the island is often called. The beach here is considered one of the widest in Europe. And actually, all the Wadden Islands and beaches are a celebration.

6. Bergen aan Zee

Bergen is of course a beautiful artists‘ village with many boutiques, terraces, and restaurants. The beach is beautiful and if you need a snack, you can go to ’De Jongens'.

7. Wijk aan Zee

Okay, not everyone finds the view of the blast furnaces picturesque, but I love Wijk because it is a cool and unpolished beach. It's a surfer's paradise, dogs are welcome, and there are nice beach tents: Aloha, Timbuktu, but also De Kust and the DITTIS Sunsea. And the village... As if you step right into the fifties.

8. Bloemendaal

Wide, beautiful beach, cool clubs, nice parties... I would recommend Bloemendaal if you want to go out without kids on the beach.

9. Noordwijk aan Zee

Oh Noordwijk, how beautiful you are. As if you are immediately abroad. Trendy beach tents galore: Witsand, Tulum, Branding Beach Club, hotel Vesper, Bries. You get to choose.
