The city with the best chance of the festival

The commentators joked that Sweden absolutely did not want to win this time, because then they would have to cough up the huge amount again. Organizing the Eurovision Song Contest costs quite a bit, you should know. How much does it cost? A meager 20 to 30 million euros.

After 44 years, we get to do it again. We started off reasonably well, we won four times and were the first ever to sing a Song Contest song, after which there were few glorious moments. Until the committee decided not to send the Sienekes from our country anymore, but to come up with heavier artillery like Ilse DeLange, Waylon, Anouk, and now Duncan with his ‘Arcade’ . Honestly: it was probably the first time in 15 years that I watched more than five minutes of the Eurovision Song Contest, but (influenced as I am) now I’m also talking about ‘our’ Duncan and where ‘we’ should hold our party. It seems to be no small feat, as the thick manual has already arrived in our country and the project group is currently working on the issue.

Our Prime Minister briefly appeared before the camera of RTL Boulevard. No matter how happy Rutte seemed in his first reaction, he must have thought for a moment: Formula 1 to Zandvoort and then also a Song Contest, how are we going to pay for that, dear taxpayers? Simple: the majority of the bill is covered by AvroTros as the organizer, and Mark Rutte already received messages at night from mayors who willingly offered their help, where presumably some euros are also floating around in the pipeline. Amsterdam is of course keen on the party, but The Hague, Rotterdam, Zwolle, Arnhem, Leeuwarden, and Maastricht also want in. It seems that the Amsterdammers have the best chance, if you add up the hotels and music arenas. As is customary for the Song Contest, the festivities usually take place in the capital. We can’t wait.
