The finest skinny cocktail to survive January

damrak gin

It is January. You can't eat anymore, you've quit smoking and now they want to dry you out too. Because hello, do you know how many calories a glass of wine has? I really just want to sniff chocolate and leave the points of French cheese alone, but you stay away from my glass. It all has to stay a bit cozy. By the way, Johnny de Mol is even doing Dry January, rock ’n roll-De Mol is the very definition of dullness. I'm going to make sure that your life stays a bit cozy, but then with a glass of alcohol that you won't immediately see around your waist.

Take a bottle of Damrak Gin, stock up on Fever-Tree Naturally Light, slice some orange and put plenty of ice in the glass. Now you might think: yes, but that tonic. No, because in such a bottle there are only 15 calories, which means you always have a skinny gin and tonic within reach. This is what you need, especially in January. But do you want something creamy and exciting, as a treat from your regular GT? Something you don't drink every day and that makes up for the lack of cheese and a cigarette (Kiki, are you following along?). That can of course be done too. I have a nice recipe for you.

Here's how to make a Gin & Grapefruit:

  • Take plenty of ice and 5 cl Damrak Gin
  • Dilute this with freshly squeezed grapefruit juice (because it's healthier)
  • Garnish the glass with slices of grapefruit and rosemary
  • Voilà, your Gin & G is ready

And if someone still makes it difficult, you can hit them over the head with the fact that grapefruit contains tons of vitamin C and is coincidentally very good for your cholesterol.
