The ankle boot and I… Let me say it wasn't exactly love at first sight. We started off on the wrong foot – literally. When I first met my friend (Zakynthos, Greece, 2009) his first legendary words were: ‘Hey, you don't have any ankles!’ I was seriously offended. What an idiot. How come I don't have ankles? You don't have any ankles yourself. Pfff.

After thorough field research combined with self-knowledge, I have also come to the conclusion… that I indeed don't really have ankles. Or actually had. Definitely not in the summer. Something about swelling and Dutch calves. Anyway, long story short: my legs have changed. I have lost weight. I have lost fourteen kilos in three quarters of a year and lo and behold, I ALSO HAVE ANKLES. Sort of. Not gigantic points sticking out from the sides of my feet, but still a modest bump.

And with the new ankles in hand, suddenly there was also love for the ankle boot. It started as a puppy love, shy, giggling, new, awkward, but by now our relationship is super steady and the ankle boot and I are a solid team.
