Body & Mind

These are the food trends of 2020 and they are quite striking

Where everyone looks towards the catwalk, I also like to delve into the kitchen cabinets. Which superfoods should go into my plant-based yogurt this time and what will I see on my plate in a restaurant? If I even get a plate, of course. I'll take you through the food trends of 2020, from quite logical to: what kind of bean?

Even healthier

It's the veggies that are ringing the bells, we're eating more and more and more vegetables, we are becoming vegetables. A snack dipped in frying fat? The horror, boys and girls. We snack responsibly and you get cucumber with your responsibly brewed beer.

Zero waste

Not to be confused with a zero waist, of course. Perhaps the most important one, already in 2019. Waste is no longer in vogue, just like tons of plastic packaging, in 2020 we eat and consume a little more responsibly and bring our own containers and bags to the supermarket. It was about time.

Alcohol-free

Of course, we already consume a zero-point-zero when we still have to drive, but alcohol-free is now really going next level. If I read it correctly, you should be happy if somewhere gin is still added to your tonic. Which is of course great news for teetotalers or the non-alcoholic person.

The West African cuisine

Nice stews, the best rice recipes, well-filled soups, the West African cuisine is what you want to eat in the new year. Don't be surprised if you see okra next to broccoli more often in the aisle or if you get the instruction to first pickle or stew something that is customary. The cuisine is pure with lots of vegetables and without unnecessary additives.

Delicious food for little foodies

No more plate of fries with a frikandel in a restaurant. What we millennials don't eat, our sprouts certainly don't eat either. Ha, sprouts, I suspect they fight over that. The fish sticks are made from wild salmon and pasta is replaced by courgetti strands. I still see myself sitting when I was five, with my fries and frikandel. They are now coming along.

Soy is out, the mung bean is in

Experiment more, seems to be the motto. Logical, because the world is eating more consciously. So soy is certainly no longer the only plant-based friend we seek our salvation in. This year we find comfort in the mung bean (?), hemp seeds, and avocados.

A spread of this and a spread of that

A butter of macadamia or a pine nut spread, it's going to happen in 2020. Because everything is becoming more plant-based and palm oil in your products is really not done, we turn to alternative raw materials. Sounds really delicious to me.

Blend your burgers

Let's lovingly skip a day of meat or fish, it can be done differently. Blend your burger with an alternative, for example. You get about fifty-fifty and thus consume really much less meat.
