These are the real rules of 30 Seconds

House party? 30 Seconds. Couch hanging evening? 30 Seconds. With wine on the terrace? 30 Seconds. It's my favorite game and judging by the Snaps and Stories, the Netherlands agrees with me. But when it comes to recalling that general knowledge, confusion often arises because certain people (just tagging) completely ignore the rules. Here they come, because these are the real game rules of 30 Seconds.
1. Do not translate directly
Situation: the card says ‘Blue Monday’ and a player describes it as ’blue Monday but in English.’ Three red crosses. Strike it out. Wrong. You have to describe the word. What is allowed is: ’The color of the sky in English plus the beginning of the week in English.‘ There you go: Blue Monday.
2. 30 seconds is really 30 seconds
In the board game, you as an opponent have your nose right above the hourglass. But with the app, you check the time less quickly and there are always a few who take advantage of that. You see the ‘describer’ pointing the screen down towards the ground around 25 seconds to scrape together some time. Tip: turn on the phone's sound, then you hear a timer.
3. Describing part of the word is also wrong
If ‘Russia’ is on the card, there are players who come up with a description like: ’The country of Putin.‘ No. Wrong. Doesn't count. You do not mention the word in your description.
4. The die that rolls off the table
And it always rolls in favor of the one who picks it up. So 0 if it's your own team and 2 for the opponents. I advise: pick it up and roll again.
5. Out must be out and in must be in
Sounds so logical but it goes wrong 38 times on such an evening. When it's your turn, you take a card from ‘OUT’. When your turn is over, you put the card in ‘IN’. Never make that mistake again, okay?
6. ‘You know all the cards by heart’
Only very unsporting losers say that. It's super unfortunate that you came in last, losing is definitely not my hobby, but comments like this turn you into a little crying toddler. And nobody wants that.
