‘Don’t buy wines under five euros, these are bulk wines that are purchased in containers at worst. Moreover, all sorts of additives are added to the wine. Look for quality marks on the bottle. Quality marks such as organic and Demeter (biodynamic wine) indicate that there are fewer additives in the wine. Spend a little more than usual and don’t grab a wine from the bottom shelf. The quality of a producer is always the same, so it’s better to keep buying wine from the same producer, then you can almost be sure you’ll like it.’

Quality

‘You only really know if you’ve chosen a good wine when you taste it. The problem is that you can only open the bottle at home and not in the supermarket. The quality of the wine in the supermarket is fairly constant, as they are keen on making everything taste about the same. In Italy, McDonald’s tastes the same as in the Netherlands, and that’s also the case with supermarket wine. But there can still be a good wine among them.’
