This is how you survive a party week

Little sleep, mucho alcoholic liquids, and dancing until the early hours. And, in the meantime, also trying to work and function normally. Yes, ADE is just around the corner. For many Amsterdammers – and by the way, also non-Amsterdammers – a concept. Amsterdam Dance Event. Five nights of partying. 2500 artists. More than 1000 events. At 200 locations. Swallow.
Whether you plan to take one dance or go all week long through the sound, whatever the plan is: good preparation is half the work. Luckily, there is Bas van Beest (personal trainer and owner of Slim Living) who helps with a step-by-step plan ‘How do I survive a party week’. And well, he is not the worst at sharing his tips with us. Here it comes.
Step 1: be well-rested
Going out and especially the drinking – and processing – of alcohol costs the body a lot of energy. You are moving the whole evening or day, and by drinking alcohol, your liver is also put to work. Additionally, you end up in bed later, causing your biological clock to get a bit out of whack. Therefore, make sure you go into the battle well-rested and try to make time to sleep in where possible.
Step 2: a good foundation
Eat a hearty, nutritious meal before you head out for the evening. This way, alcohol is absorbed more slowly, and you ultimately have more energy to dance the whole night. A combination of proteins and carbohydrates remains the best base. A hearty stamppot is therefore not such a crazy idea with this autumn weather.
Step 3: WATER
Yes, yes, alcohol dehydrates you, making it extra important to keep hydrating. Have a soft drink, a 0.0% beer, or water in between. Oh AND: fill a cup and place it next to your bed for when you get home. In the morning, you will be grateful, because the man with the hammer hits a lot less hard when you keep hydrating.
Tip 4: Bu-bye junk food
Still suffering from a dry mouth and spaghetti legs? Then especially avoid junk food. Although it seems like your body is screaming for pizzas and pastas, it actually craves good fats (fish!) and especially a lot of vegetables and fruit. So instead of ordering a greasy snack, try an açai bowl, make a wrap with falafel, or choose a mackerel sandwich.
Tip 5: be kind to yourself
Nothing is more annoying than lying on the couch with a guilty conscience after a good party. Take into account the rough day after when you are not productive – and hey, that’s totally okay. Don’t be hard on yourself.
So, let’s go. Where is that party???
Here it is… Okay, act normal.
HAVE FUN!!
