what you want to do in kiev

What on earth are you going to do in Kiev?’ was a question that I was asked non-stop last week. Jon had two nights to spare at Aloft Hotels and we found London or Munich a bit boring, so we decided to go for the most ‘exotic’ destination on the list. To be honest, I had no idea what to expect, but we love nothing more than discovering a new place with the family. So, full of positive vibes, we started our trip. During the taxi ride to the center, the view felt like East Berlin. Once we arrived at the hotel, we raced with a huge hunger to the corner to hit a fantastic trendy hotdog and cocktail bar. If you had told me inside that I was in New York, I would have believed you immediately. The language barrier is a bit of a thing (which is why I literally ordered twice as much food as necessary), but it's also quite exciting. Very curious about what the next day will bring us here.

If you love beautiful cathedrals, then Kiev is the place to be. Stunning brightly colored buildings with golden domes and the interior is just as impressive. The atmosphere on the street is very cozy and we stroll through the local markets as if we are locals. The culinary highlight was the fish restaurant Catch, where I truly had the tastiest oysters ever and (May, take note) you have a champagne menu that is as thick as an old-fashioned phone book. Otis was carried around and received a kind of throne plus a hundred coloring pages. I think there are still a lot of undiscovered treasures for which you need to come back once. Absolutely recommended for a city trip outside the box.

April and May are beautiful months for me for several reasons: spring is in the air, the city starts to come alive outside again, and during these months there are a lot of cool sample sales where you can find the most beautiful items for a soft price. This week starts off well with no less than two, so for those who just received their salary: this is your chance to get rid of it as quickly as possible.

Last week I presented the very first derm class on sun protection for La Roche-Posay. Now I thought I knew quite a bit about this, but together with all the guests, we learned a lot about SPF, your skin, and the different types of sun protection. For example, I now know that a good sunscreen should protect against UV damage, visible light, and infrared damage, we don't need that much vitamin D to feel good (read: baking in the sun), and you should use 30 milliliters per application for your entire body to really protect yourself against the sun (about a tube per day). So you definitely need to start applying even with that bright spring sun. I now have this handy pocket-sized version of the Anthélios spray in my bag.
