Whoops: that aging app is less innocent than it seems…

kiki looks at phone, omg seriously

It's funny, isn't it, all those elderly wrinkly faces you suddenly see popping up on Insta. But is it still so funny when it turns out they're running off with your privacy-sensitive information in Russia?

One moment we're massively catching Pokémons, then it's funny to eat cinnamon, then we're sucking on a bottle cap for Kylie Jenner lips, and then we jump out of a half-moving car for the Kiki challenge. Fads pop up out of nowhere, we all do it, and then it's over again. Now one Dutch person after another uploads their photo in an application that realizes aging features. It's hilarious of course, but it's still smart to at least know that FaceApp saves your photos. And, eh, saves even more than just your face.

AD reports that experts warn about the dangers of using the photo editing app. ‘In the privacy statement of the Russian company, it states that all sorts of information from users is stored. Such as the photos of your face that you take in the app, but also your IP address, locations, device information from your smartphone, and other information from cookies.’ Well, and what exactly the Russians do with the data? Nobody knows. It regularly happens that the information is sold and then ends up in a database, then gets resold or made accessible to strangers.

Is it then all incredibly scary/serious/stupid/dangerous to use the app? Personally, I think it's not that bad. Your iPhone also saves your photos and asks for your fingerprint. Your computer also saves cookies. But, be at least aware of the photos you upload, I would say. And if you don't like the idea at all, then just don't do it, right? In the meantime, you can also have a purrrrima time with those of others (eh, those of us for example here). And okay, fine: our favorites from the BN'ers...
