Why (almost) everyone lost massive Insta-followers this morning

A message from one of my best friends. “Look, did you lose followers?” Uh, let me check. Well, would you look at that. FOUR HUNDRED. Holy lord. What happened? Instagram did another big swipe last night. Out with the vague fake accounts, hatsakee.

Somewhere I actually think this is just chill. I mean: what do you have to gain from four hundred followers (from Russia, from China, from Lutjebroek) who follow you but never like anything? Not really great for your engagement. So I went on a little investigation. Am I the only one? Of course not. Anna Nooshin had 843,000 followers yesterday, this morning she had ‘only’ 816,000. The Amayzine account also lost a few hundred.

Did you suddenly lose half of your followers? Ouch. See it as a lesson. We are no longer interested in fake shit. Instagram has previously stated that there are many accounts using third-party apps to gain a lot of followers. Additionally, there are a lot of bot accounts that randomly follow thousands of people but no one is actually behind them. And they are quite done with that. They want to maintain a lively and authentic community where people have genuine followers and likes. And rightly so.

Thank you Insta, for these cleaning practices. Here’s to more authenticity!
