Honestly, it was a weird mess together, those Will.i.am, Fergie, Apl.de.ap and Taboo. But boom boom pow, they made our youth one big hit parade. Yes, millennials agree: it’s a shame this group is no longer together. So today it's time for a little ode to the coolest crazies in the music industry.
Honestly: Fergie was the girlboss we all wanted to be
I still remember how cool I thought it was that that one blonde chick was embraced as one of the guys in the group. She lifted it, She with braids. She with those killer abs, She with that powerful voice. Ugh. Gotta love Fergie in every single way.
The BEP wrote songs with balls
Did you know that the first record label they were with didn’t want to release an album with them because their songs were too positive and peace-loving? Pfff. Just think that Where is the Love? from the album Elephunk became their first big hit. ‘Father, father, father help us. Send some guidance from above. ‘Cause people got me, got me questioning… Where’s the love?’ I don’t know anyone who doesn’t still think this song is cool. It was exactly the right message at exactly the right time. This protest song wouldn’t be out of place in this time either, by the way.
Which brings me to the next point: as often, The Black Eyed Peas were ahead of their time
