10 unnecessary stupid facts about nature

kiki durations

Did you know that the temperature of a crocodile egg determines the sex of the crocodile? And that for every ten kilometers you drive, an average of two insects meet their end on your license plate? No? Ah, then I have some strange curiosities for you. Mother Nature, she is beautiful in all her madness.

1. You shouldn't think too long about this because then you'll go craycray, but 420 million years ago, there were mushrooms that were bigger than giraffes. I shit you not.

2. At the South Pole, the ice is more than two kilometers thick. At least, the question is how much longer, of course.

3. A bear can hold its pee for six months. Now you know that too. Oh, and the bang of a pistol shrimp (?) sounds louder than that of a real gun.

4. Yep. Someone once dared to find out, and so we know that an adult hedgehog has 5000 to 8000 spines that are 1 to 2 centimeters long. Just like humans, a hedgehog sheds its spines throughout its life.

5. The thickest tree in the Netherlands is the Kabouterboom, a gi-gantic sweet chestnut in Beek-Ubbergen. With a trunk circumference of 8.35 meters, it puts every tree to shame.

6. Falling stars are actually pieces of space rock.

7. Makes sense when you think about it, but a flamingo can only eat when it's upside down.

8. A carnivorous plant devours a captured insect in an average of ten days.

9.A raindrop falls at about 38 kilometers per hour.

10. Some sea otters have brains shaped like donuts. HAHAHA. Okay, sorry for this strange interlude. Have a nice Sunday, huh.
