1. Tommy’s Margarita by David Trampe from Botanero
Before we start, David first shares some handy tips:
- Cheap drinks lead to hangovers. Just buy Arette Tequila or Nuestra Soledad Mezcal at Gall&Gall. I've never had a hangover from those. Often, the cheap stuff does.
- Drink enough water in between and don't forget to eat. It's much more fun and ensures that, as long as you get good quality at home and drink it, you won't have any issues the next day.
- Make it easy on yourself and prepare a basic mix of 200 ml lime juice and 100 ml sugar syrup. Use 35 to 40 ml of that per Margarita. You'll have it ready at hand and won't be fumbling around when you're thirsty.
The classic Margarita is made with tequila, but according to David, this cocktail is also really delicious with Mezcal.
What do you need:
- 50 ml good quality tequila or Mezcal (again: don't skimp, you'll only regret it the next day)
- 25 ml freshly squeezed lime juice
- 12.5 ml sugar syrup. Add 200 grams of sugar and 100 ml of water to a saucepan. Heat it gently while stirring. Once it's dissolved, it's ready. If you like to make it easy on yourself, scroll back to tip 3 above. Then you won't have to make the sugar syrup over and over.
- pinch of salt

Put everything in the shaker at once, fill it completely with ice cubes, and shake like crazy. Pour the entire contents with ice into a large whiskey glass and don't forget to toast with your quarantine buddies.
2. Rum Dry Martini by Daryl Lieuw-On from Rumah
At Rumah, they focus on, yes, rum. Why? Simply because rum is super cool. Unfortunately, we notice that rum is still quite unknown in the Netherlands and is misunderstood. Time to change that! In the ‘classics’ section of Rumah, you'll find cocktails that are based on rum, while the original is made with a different spirit.
What do you need:
- 50 ml Paranubes Rum
- 10 ml Noilly Prat Dry Vermouth
Here's how to make the Rum Dry Martini
Stir all the ingredients in a mixing glass with ice cubes and then pour this into a chilled martini glass or coupe (without ice).
3. Negroni by Chi-Ho Ta from Dr. & Calaboose
The Negroni originated in 1919 at Caffe Casoni in Florence, Italy. At the request of Count Camillo Negroni, the Americano cocktail got an extra kick by replacing the soda with gin. Et voilà, there was the Negroni, a flavorful bittersweet cocktail where all the flavors shine beautifully alongside each other and nothing is masked. The Negroni is basically easy to make and consists of three equal parts: gin, sweet red vermouth, and Campari.
And the fun thing about this cocktail is that it's easy to twist. For example, it's also delicious with genever, bourbon, mezcal, or tequila. Want to make it a bit more exciting? Play with the other ingredients and add vermouth instead of Campari. The possibilities are endless! Curious about Chi-Ho's twist?
What do you need:
- 30 ml Rutte Paradijswijn
- 25 ml Kamm & Sons
- 15 ml Mandarine Napoleon
Here's how to make the Negroni
Stir all the ingredients with plenty of ice in a mixing glass and pour it over ice cubes in a tumbler (or stir directly in the tumbler with ice). Garnish with the peel of a grapefruit.
4. Malibu-cola by Niels van Wouwe from Williams Canteen
In these somewhat strange and uncertain times, we need more certainties. And one thing is for sure in life: we all have guilty pleasures. Malibu Cola screams guilty pleasures and is also easy to make at home. Winning!
What do you need:
- 30 ml Malibu
- 40 ml Bacardi Ocho Años
- 10 ml clarified lime juice
- 20 ml homemade cola syrup
- top with London Essence soda water
- 2 dashes of Angostura bitters
Here's how to make the Malibu-cola
Pour all the ingredients over the ice and mix a little. Tip for now: buy the above ingredients and start making Malibu-colas at home (at a safe distance).
5. Simple yet delicious quarantine cocktail by Aline Gikis from Amehoela
An absolute crowd-pleaser and super easy to make, making it ideal during quarantine days. Every non-cocktailer can nail this one.
What do you need:
- 50 ml cognac
- 25 ml Disaronno
- 25 ml freshly squeezed lemon juice
Here's how to make the quarantine cocktail
Throw all the ingredients into a glass and fill it three-quarters with crushed ice. Use a spoon to roughly stir the cocktail for about 15 seconds. Fill the glass with more crushed ice and finish it off with a straw and a piece of orange peel.
