6x ways to eat peanut butter

Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the food lovers of online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat and what to cook. This time our chefs serve you: surprising peanut butter combinations.
Peanut butter: besides just eating it straight from the jar with a spoon, it's of course a mega versatile substance. Once you've had the discussion ‘is it sweet or savory’ with yourself or the kids, you can spread and stuff to your heart's content and spoon it through something. How about these surprising combinations?
Because the marriage between peanut butter and chocolate is of course well-known, and now that the candy is back on the shelves, it's also counting down to the return of peanut butter with spice nuts. However, even more interesting are these duos:
Peanut butter sandwich with pickle
Not so crazy after all. Just think of gado gado, that crunchy Indonesian salad where peanut sauce is quite essential (except for this gado gado from Vanja van der Leeden, which is brilliant even without peanuts but with tahini). Often something tangy is eaten with it, think of atjar or ketimun; pickled cucumber. Well, from there, the step to a peanut butter pickle sandwich is easily made, right? Delicious!
Hamburger with peanut butter
I didn't see that coming either, but it definitely works. Especially if you make sure the peanut butter is a bit soft and melted, even better if it's actually a nice spicy Asian peanut sauce, and especially if there's bacon involved.
Peanut butter with mayo
Interesting, interesting... We of course have the fries war, but in the southern United States, this seems to be a tried-and-true combo for bread. I'm not completely feeling it yet, but it was ‘invented‘ during the crisis of the 1930s when other spreads were probably hardly available. In that context, I can imagine that you can fill a stomach very well with few resources.
Peanut butter with bacon
Yes, bring it on... Can you already picture your brunch table decorated with sandwiches with this creamy salty top combo on, for example, your American pancakes? Extra crunch bonus points for peanut butter with pieces of nuts. And do you want to feel a bit like Elvis? Then of course add some banana slices.
Peanut butter sandwich with sriracha
Full circle back to the Asian corner, because this is absurdly delicious even with sambal and cucumber. As soon as you want an upgrade from your peanut butter and jam sandwich, try sriracha or a sweet sambal manis. Same sweet aftertaste, but a notch bolder. And you balance the spiciness with that nice thick layer of peanut butter. Also great: do what colleague Steffi does and spoon some peanut butter into your (spicy) instant noodles.
Peanut butter with dates
Also from the mind of Steffi, who knows her way around peanut butter: the best dates in terms of price/quality, namely Iranian, just cut them open and then stuff a bit of peanut butter into the date. Instant treat.
