9 Corona-facts you probably didn't know

After all the extra news broadcasts, push notifications, and talk show takeovers about the Coronavirus (does anyone still talk about the animals in Australia? How are they doing?), you think you know everything about the Covid virus. Yet, I notice in my surroundings that many people live in an uncertainty that is unfounded. Therefore, here’s another fact, hopefully with a reassuring effect.

Did you know?

1. You are only contagious once you have symptoms of Corona?
It is not the case, as with measles for example, that you are already a carrier and contagious before the disease manifests. That is quite a reassuring thought: if it’s not there, there is no danger.

2. You can only infect two to three people?
It is not the case that you can infect an entire village. That is good because reducing the number of patients is now the most important task.

3. You transmit the virus through droplets that are produced when coughing and sneezing? Being in the same building does not mean you are immediately infected.

4. Microbiologist and Corona expert Ann Vossen still shakes hands?

5. And did you know that she finds it a bit exaggerated that Nike is closing its headquarters in Hilversum because one person is infected? Her idea: remove that person from the company instead of closing the company.

6. That if you wash your hands really well, you are busy for twenty seconds?

7. The company that produces Corona beer has already made a loss of 260 million this year?
This is due to the negative association with the name Corona, the reduced number of Chinese people who are now drinking beer (China is a major consumer of the beer), and because many ingredients of the beer come from China, which are now not being delivered. Triple bad luck.

8. That in the 1980s there was a candy brand called Ayds that completely fell out of favor when the disease AIDS emerged?

9. That the first patient in Haarlem is again an acquaintance of a colleague of mine?
