A nice reading or listening book list

In case you've started doing lockdown reading or lockdown listening, here's a nice list of fresh books to wrap up this year excellently. From thrillers to memoirs and of course our own May.

On the way to Harry Cook – Charlotte Nash €20,00 Bol.com
On the way to Harry Cook – Charlotte Nash
A book in which many worlds that do not come together so easily do come together. Young and old. Australia and the USA. Poor and rich. Love and hate. Then and now. I found the book in which Mallory goes after her son Harry and ends up on a wildly crazy road trip with seniors to be refreshingly entertaining. A book for fans of Hendrik Groen and Jonas Jonasson.

Cheerful to the finish line – Hendrik Groen €20,00 Bol.com
Cheerful to the finish line – Hendrik Groen
Now that we are talking about him: Hendrik has finished his last secret diary. The older man who can make us laugh out loud within two pages and can make us cry buckets. This time without Evert, but with Miss Jansen. We follow Hendrik in times of corona (delightfully current) cheerfully to the finish line. I will miss him.

Sweet, sweet revenge Ltd – Jonas Jonasson €20,99 Bol.com
Sweet, sweet revenge Ltd – Jonas Jonasson
Everything by Jonas Jonasson is delightful to read. If you haven't done so yet: start at the beginning. So when I saw that the new one from Jonasson was out, I had to promise myself to save it until Christmas. Knowing Jonasson, the story is deliciously absurd again. We follow Victor, an artist from Stockholm, who is trying to get rid of his illegitimate child. What I said: absurd, and worth reading.

A promised land – Barack Obama €45,00 Bol.com
A promised land – Barack Obama
Obama's memoirs, about his personal journey. How he went from young man to the most powerful man in the world. Definitely worth reading, of course. It seems he writes very personally.

The Wim Hof method – Wim Hof €20,99 Bol.com
The Wim Hof method – Wim Hof
Cold showers, but eating only once a day, holding your breath for minutes. It may not sound very cozy at first, but Wim Hof shows in a playful way what the body and mind are capable of. A method to perhaps become a better version of yourself.

Spiegelman – Lars Kepler €21,99 Bol.com
Spiegelman – Lars Kepler
Because you also need a bit of suspense, even if you are cozily under the tree. After five years, the body of a young woman is found. Who saw her last in the mirror? And does the disheveled man manage to clarify his story? I want to read it.

Aunt Jo – Sander Donkers €15,00 Bol.com
Aunt Jo – Sander Donkers
One of my favorite columnists in De Volkskrant. Donkers reflects on his Aunt Jo, who symbolizes a generation as we no longer know or will get back. Wonderful if you want to read a piece occasionally or to read in one go, that's fine too.

Cleo and Bast, The insane art heist – May-Britt Mobach €17,99 Bol.com
Cleo and Bast, The insane art heist – from our May
The children's book that is at least as fun even if you are no longer a child. I think so, but maybe I'm a petit peu biased. Don't hold it against me. With Cleo and Bast on a crime spree in a luxurious hotel in Paris: what more do you want this December month?
