Aiaiai: money apparently makes lonely

In these times, money is no longer that important: health is the only thing that really matters. But yes.
You do get quite happy from that new Gucci sunglasses on your head, and that happiness is good for your mental well-being, isn't it?
Sorry, mispoes. Because wanting to have money, wanting to be rich, wanting to buy things without thinking about it apparently makes you lonely, and we all know that loneliness is just as bad for you as smoking. Loneliness is just as bad for your immune system. The fact that money gets in the way of your social life is like this: those who want to be rich and therefore place a lot of value on money invest a lot of time and energy in it. They work hard and spend little money on fun things. Therefore, on average, they are more often less social, according to researchers at Harvard.
‘When people base their self-worth on financial success, they often experience high pressure and a lack of autonomy. This is associated with negative social consequences,’ researcher Lora Park explains to Science Daily. ‘When you feel a lot of pressure to achieve financial goals, you work very hard, and that comes at the expense of time you could have spent with your loved ones. It is precisely the lack of time for loved ones that is associated with feelings of loneliness and isolation.’ Well. There is something to be said for it: if you find it more important that your savings account is filled until retirement, then you are not so keen on spending that 50 euros on a dinner with a friend. While you should actually do that: 1 million Dutch people feel lonely. And they long for that friend to chat with.
Due to the quarantine times in the corona crisis we may all feel a bit more lonely than we are used to. We see fewer friends, neighbors, acquaintances, colleagues. And that makes you alone, solo, uno. But hopefully not lonely: know who you love and who your true loved ones are, let them know that you miss them or would love to see and hug them soon. At a distance of one and a half meters, that is, because that will remain the case according to the Prime Minister for a while. But then you can also love each other, really. That is worth more than that savings account, right?
Or well, it would be nice to virtually or distantly hug those beloved missed friends soon with those Gucci glasses on. But yes, I’m not saying that out loud, are you crazy.
