These 5 mistakes in the morning make you so tired

Do you recognize that afternoon slump like no other? Then I may have found the cause: your morning ritual. No, today there’s no sermon about what time you should go to bed, how many hours of sleep your body needs, or why getting up at 5:00 AM makes you more or less successful. 5:00 AM wake-up time makes you more or less successful, but a few super easy tips after that damn alarm goes off. I say: definitely worth a try *yawn*. Here they come:
Skip the snooze work
Look, I’m immediately guilty of this myself. I’ve been snoozing my whole life. Preferably two, three, four times. But no matter how nice those extra minutes of sleep feel, your body doesn’t wake up any more from it. Here’s the thing: the more you keep extending your sleep, the more your sleep cycle gets completely confused. And that’s exactly what we don’t want, because thanks to that confused cycle, you won’t be able to get going for the rest of the day.
Away with that phone
Yes, I’m totally guilty of this too. Every morning, reaching for your phone with sleepy eyes to immediately respond to your unanswered messages, scroll through your Instagram feed, and check the first work email. Not a good idea. The stream of messages, which can be both positive and negative, can put your body in a certain state of panic. You don’t necessarily have to realize it, but you might experience it later in the day as a stressed or tired feeling.
Hotter is definitely not better
Do you not wake up without a hot shower? Nonsense. A shower that’s too warm sends you right back to dreamland. Heat signals your nervous system that your muscles can relax and your heart rate can go down, which is exactly the opposite of what waking up means for your body. So if you really want to wake up? Then a cooler shower is the solution, as it helps you produce an extra dose of adrenaline and endorphins, giving you extra energy and a cheerful feeling. So I say: let’s start a few degrees cooler, guys, every little bit helps, sleepyhead.
But first… No coffee
Does your alarm go off roughly at the same time your coffee machine turns on? Bad idea. Look, of course, we need coffee in the early morning, and I’m not going to try to take that away from you, but you might want to postpone that first cup of coffee a bit. When you wake up, your body produces cortisol, a substance that makes you more alert and acts like a kind of natural caffeine. If you immediately follow that up with a shot of coffee, you disrupt the effect of that cortisol. So if you wake up between 7:00 and 8:00 AM, try treating yourself to your first cup at around 10:00 AM at the office.
A not so fancy breakfast
Do you leave your house a bit too often with a not so fancy breakfast on the go? From a healthy breakfast cookie to a muesli bar or energy bar; those are not the best choices to start your busy day. These kinds of products are packed with sugars, causing you to get a short energy spike and then crash hard. Try a breakfast with fruit, proteins, and complex carbohydrates. Bet that will do you good?
