Do numbers have their own color for you too?

Do numbers also have their own color for you? Wieke

Recently, I saw a post on Twitter stating that ages can be male or female. In terms of feeling, you know. The Twitter user found 20 to be female and 19 to be male. My first thought was: YES. O-ver-dui-de-lijk. And the funny thing was that many Twitter users completely agreed. It's quite special that something like an age can really evoke a certain association in people.

The same goes for subjects in school. For many people, math, for example, has the color red, while in my mind it has more of a dirty brown color. Biology is green — that might be a bit more ‘logical’ because green is the color of nature. English is blue — YES, I completely agree. And I'm not the only one.

But numbers can also have colors. Are you reading this and thinking: girl, what on earth are you talking about and are you doing okay? I'm talking about synesthesia. A very interesting phenomenon; people who have this associate things like numbers with colors and musical notes with tastes. Especially the latter seems so bizarre to me. This is one of the rarest forms, and there are about sixty of them.

So Vice asked someone who has synesthesia how different numbers tasted. Slipknot, for example, had a special taste. Lots of chocolate, and then hard bars, and pieces of crusty bread and just the crust. Nahh, doesn't this sound really bizarre? I'm so curious if those people actually taste that. It might also be handy as a guilty pleasure. Huge cravings for chocolate? Just put on a Slipknot track.

All Star by Smash Mouth (you know, that song from Shrek) tastes like Digestive biscuits. The good old one from Alice Deejay, Better Off Alone, was his favorite: generally very sweet, but also with pieces of pea in it. He suspected that was due to the beat. Furthermore, it was a mix of wine gums, sour candies with fruit flavors, and sugar on top, that kind of sweet stuff. Seems like a bizarre experience of listening to music and also a bit exhausting, if you keep getting a jumble of flavors in your mouth when you just want to put on some background music.

The most common one, I haven't talked about yet: those are colors that correspond to letters. Each letter of the alphabet has a specific color. I can relate to that more: for me, A has a bright color, like bright blue. A bit light in any case. X is dark brown or army green and L is purple.

Now I'm very curious if anyone can relate to this a bit or if you've all completely tuned out after the first paragraph. If not, then I have one last little thing: vowels are female and consonants are male? Seems very obvious, doesn't it? Okay, I’ll see myself out.
