Do you know coffee: what is the difference between a Latte Macchiato and a Caffè Latte?

You walk in the city and suddenly you feel like having a nice cup. Upon entering the first coffee shop you come across, you are overwhelmed by options, many options. Send help, because which one should you choose? I'll explain it to you, because with one shot of espresso and some creativity, you have thousands of possibilities.
1. Let's start easy. If you see a Lungo on the menu, don't be surprised by the name. A lungo is just a black coffee with a nice Italian name. Let's be honest. It sounds much more luxurious when you say: “Can I have a lungo, please” than when you ask for a simple black coffee.
2. An Americano is a shot of espresso with a little bit of hot water. A shot of espresso is pretty strong on its own and a bit bitter in taste. The hot water dilutes the flavor and makes it less intense. An Americano is therefore perfect if you need a boost but don't like the intense experience that an espresso brings.
3. A Cortado is a mini cappuccino. It is a shot of espresso with a little cloud of frothed milk to make the flavor a bit less intense, just like with an Americano. But despite that, a Cortado is a very good option for the daily dose of caffeine.
4. The Latte Macchiato is, besides a cappuccino, perhaps the most well-known. In a latte macchiato, the coffee and milk are separated so that a nice layer of foam forms on top.
This is how you make a Latte Macchiato:
- Froth the milk and then pour it into a glass. Leave some space so that the shot of espresso can be added.
- Brew your shot. While the shot is being brewed, the milk can thicken a bit.
- Pour the shot into the milk and voilà: a delicious latte macchiato.
5. A coffee that is often confused with this is the Caffè Latte, also known as the good old coffee wrong. A caffè latte is an inverted latte macchiato. In a caffè latte, the coffee is mixed with the milk, while in a latte macchiato they are separated.
This is how you make a Caffè Latte:
1. Brew a shot of espresso in a cup.
2. While your shot is brewing, you can froth the milk.
3. When your shot is ready and the milk is frothed, pour the milk into the shot.
The coffee you make in the same way as the caffè latte is the Flat White. This is perfect if you've had a long day or the day is just starting. A flat white contains two shots of espresso and a little milk. It's basically a caffè latte with extra power.
