Does a full moon really do something to you?

On our editorial team, there are days when we all sleep poorly at the same time. The first thing we do is grab a strong coffee and the second is to google whether it was a full moon. No superstition is strange to us. But does the moon really have that much effect on you and me, or is it all just an exaggeration?
First things first: a connection between the lunar cycle and your sleep behavior has never been officially proven. This is stated by Radboud University and the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry in Munich, who conducted extensive research on this together. Just like researchers from the University of Saskatchewan, who are responsible for the largest study on the moon ever. A plausible explanation is that we sleep worse when it is light, and a full moon just happens to do that.
But if the moon affects the functioning of the earth, why wouldn't it affect the beings that live on it? That's what I think... And apparently rightly so, because a woman's cycle spans about the same time as the lunar cycle. What science still finds inexplicable can be read in a reference work from NU.nl.
It's not surprising then, that there are millions if not billions of people who believe that the moon has power. Astrologers attribute a lot of energy to the moon, for example, and claim that your emotions are stronger around a full moon. Not true, scientists say again, you can only remember your emotions and events better because the evening is lighter and you see things more clearly. Furthermore, they believe that we (the media) are responsible for constantly searching for a connection between, for example, poor sleep and a full moon.
Yet believers remain convinced of the moon. Everything would have more power when the moon is full, including sleep meditation and yoga, which is quite handy if you can't sleep at all. Not such a crazy thought, because isn't it the moon that causes tides? It is the moon that pulls on the water through gravity (look, there you have it).
The fact remains that it has not been proven, the fact also remains that the moon possesses natural powers. Believe what you want, but if you think the moon means more than the moon landing and tides: here are some nice facts from people who are wholeheartedly convinced of the full moon.
- A full moon gives you energy and ideas, a great moment to write down your dreams and goals.
- It amplifies your emotions, both good and bad, so focus on something nice.
- A full moon is said to make things more fertile, this has never been proven in humans, but it has been in crops.
- Meditate more, it might just help you fall asleep. Good night.
