Drinking at home is unhealthier than you think

Yeah, here we are again. Not in a full lockdown like before, but still. We're back in a sort of light lockdown. Because it's just the weekend now, but what are we going to do? Hang around until ten o'clock in the evening? Well, woop woop. What a madhouse. No, a house party then? That's not allowed either. Well, with a maximum of three people visiting. But I don't think you can really sing along, because that's not good for the infections either. Or can you do that at home? As a big karaoke lover, I'm going to look into this a bit more.
Now I do have my thoughts about the horeca being restricted again (since only 5 percent of the infections occur there and 55 percent at home), I also don't really know if my liver is happy about it. Because I've really never drunk as regularly as during our first lockdown. Working from home, unable to go anywhere = just open that bottle, you know.
Whether drinking at home during lockdowns and quarantine is really so much more than what we did in normal times (ahh, can you still remember those?) in pubs is still not entirely clear. It's still too recent to really see results. Like liver damage. Those kinds of cheerful things. But there was already a warning in April. ‘Be careful not to make it a habit.’ About that drinking at home, you know.
But honestly: especially with a small group at home, you drink so much faster than when you're in the horeca. Every glass of wine is refilled without question. I quickly lose track of how much I've had and even stronger: I don't even count from the first glass anymore. I also often drink faster at home than in the pub. No idea why that is, maybe because it's your familiar environment? Although the pub is that for me too.
In the horeca, of course, you have to order every glass or bottle again. That often involves some discussion. ‘Shall we get another one?’ for example. To which I always enthusiastically say ‘YES’ and my company is once again not surprised that I'm back with team #ikwilnognietnaarhuis. But the threshold is definitely higher in the horeca than at home. At home, ‘shall we open another bottle?’ is almost answered with a ‘yes’, because if you have leftovers, you'll just drink it later.
No, for my liver, this light lockdown is once again not very good, I guess. Because I haven't even started talking about that press conference from last week, which can only be processed in one way: with drinks. Speaking of which, I'll pour myself another one.
