Just about Married At First Sight

carlo boszhard Married at first sight

In another situation, I could have easily skipped Married at First Sight. It's not the kind of program that I think: I'll sit down for this. But I wanted to see JINEK and not miss anything, so it was probably bubbling in the background and then I thought of everything. Of everything.

1. Everyone cries when he puts on his wedding suit

Whether it's the bride, the groom, the sister, the mother, or the child: they are all moved. Initially, I found that, to say the least, striking (because I only understand the emotion when it comes to a layered experience; a wedding is not a cotton candy you buy), but later I understood that the emotion mainly lies in the desire to be married. The search for happiness and the idea that, who knows, who knows, that is waiting for you.

2. That wedding dress

So there is a high blonde bride-to-be who has spent quite a few hours in the tattoo studio chair, but nevertheless did not find that conflicting with a strapless top adorned with pearls, lily-white. The zipper couldn't close “because of those fake breasts.”.

3. How nice is Thierry

“Can it get any more awkward?” asks Thierry when the civil registrar introduces him to his future mother-in-law and briefly shows him his wife's sister so he has a bit of an idea of what to expect from his wife in terms of appearance.

4. “Armpit hair and pubic hair on a man is really a no-go”

That comment came from the high blonde camp. In my time, white socks were the dealbreaker; now pubic hair is suddenly the bogeyman.

5. That family

Who don't want to cry because of the mascara and have put on their best suit. Why are they crying? Because they feel bad that their loved one hasn't found happiness in another way? Because they sincerely hope that science will find the one?

It's very easy to have all sorts of opinions about Married at First Sight. There were many breasts, lips, obscene movements left and right, and coarse jokes. But still, there was hope. And faith. And love. Maybe (not yet) for the marriage candidate, but certainly for the supporters. The daughter who awkwardly ties her father's suspenders, the father who will bring his nervous daughter to the altar. “You can still back out, but we won't do that.” The sister who says she looks ‘really beautiful.’.

I found it a circus, but a lovely circus. And I'm watching again tonight.
