why you want to go to Volendam and Edam today

a harbor in Edam

Last week I tipped the nicest spots of my hometown, Ouderkerk aan de Amstel. Just in case it wasn't entirely clear that I love little villages and the associated village coziness: this should make it clear, because I also find Volendam and Edam so nice for a day out. My best friend comes from Edam and every time I join her for a day out, I find it such a cute town again. And Volendam is just great for a day out. Yes, even such a photoshoot with matching clothing I find fun. Sometimes I really am a walking cliché.

Tips Edam

Bar Restaurant VIJF

For a cozy little town like Edam, this is still quite a trendy spot in terms of look. Simple but good dishes and also nice to just have a drink at the bar.

De Fortuna

This is also a hotel and really exactly what I envision when I think of a village restaurant. Not too much fuss, but so wonderfully cozy and classic. Love it.

Restaurant Jimmy

Asian food that is really quite good, also for takeout. Small but nice restaurant, it doesn't look particularly authentically Asian, but that shouldn't spoil the fun.

Fort Resort Beemster

Just outside Edam, but for a wellness day this is the absolute best recommendation. Super beautiful surroundings too. Nice: they pay a lot of attention to sustainability here. And having drinks and eating is also top.

Extra tip: around Edam you will find many tea gardens. Super fun to — you guessed it — drink tea, have lunch, or dock with a little boat.

Tips Volendam

De Dijk

Ehhh yes, of course you have to go here when you're in Volendam. And of course, I'm really on the lookout to spot Nick and Simon or Jan Smit somewhere.

Paviljoen Smit-Bokkum

Delicious old-fashioned, with a view of the harbor. Fresh fish of course, but also other dishes. Especially just wonderfully traditional Dutch (or traditionally Volendam) and I really find it a breath of fresh air to visit places like this instead of the trendiest spots.

Lotje Wine & Dine

On De Dijk, I'm trying to spot Jan Smit, but I think the chance is greater that I run into him here in his Volendam body. He is actually a co-owner of this place.

Extra tip: a bit of an unnecessary tip perhaps, but a visit to Volendam is of course not complete without devouring an eel.
