Just a bit about Famke Louise, Jinek and #ikdoenietmeermee

Activism is more than ever being fueled on social media, including among celebrities, who came up with the call #ikdoenietmeermee on Monday. Among others, Famke Louise, Bizzey, and Thomas Berge spoke the now much-discussed words: ‘Only together can we get the government under control. I'm not participating anymore, free the people.’ Before long, the yes/no opinions about this action arise and behold: a media scandal is born.
Last night, Famke Louise joined Jinek. She wrote down what she wants to say on a piece of paper and, due to nerves, doesn't quite come across well. I understand, because just try sitting across from virologist Diederik Gommers to express your opinion on corona. Yikes. It's a bit of a nail-biting moment.
Famke claims she does not want to urge her followers to stop following the government's corona rules, but she does want the cabinet to show more empathy towards the young people whose lives are on hold and towards those who have critical questions.
‘We needed this hashtag to draw attention. Otherwise, I wouldn't be sitting here at the table now,’ Famke said. ‘I have a strong opinion about this. I didn't mean that I don't care about anything. But there are just things that are not right at the moment.’ The singer emphasizes that she does not want to call for civil disobedience and wants to have respect for corona.
Gommers thinks differently. He wants Famke to set a good example for her 1 million followers. ‘The consequences of you as a group not doing this anymore... That would really be a disaster.’ Still, Famke stands by her position: ‘I'm very glad I did this. I do think something needs to change.’
Oh, and you know, how easy is it to dismiss Famke now? Let's be honest: questions are arising in all layers of society now. If you had chosen a speaker like Lange Frans, you would have had a completely different debate. I think as a talk show host, you should be grateful that different parties dare to explain their opinions at your table.
It's not about who is right: whether it's Famke or Diederik. It's about the fact that the Netherlands is becoming increasingly divided and that it's important to keep discussing topics where there is friction.
On one hand, we are trying to connect with each other more than ever in 2020, to build bridges and listen to each other's opinions without immediately attaching a judgment to it, on the other hand, we are creating more and more situations where we stand in direct opposition to each other. It's a weird ass time.
Sigh.
