Even over De Slimste Mens

I was really looking forward to De Slimste Mens yesterday. Just some light, non-current affairs entertainment. Just watching and participating. Moreover, the line-up this year is delightful. ‘Our’ Liesbeth Rasker, Anna Nooshin, and last night Guus Meeuwis was just there. I would almost put something very strange like ‘none other than’ in front of it. In a world where everything is different, De Slimste feels just as unchanged and familiar. Well, except for those perspex partitions, but I erase those from my mind.

First of all: I have sat there too and I promised my nerves not to repeat these kinds of things. Things that seem so simple from the couch suddenly aren't so obvious there. I think that was the strength of Emma Wortelboer who just kept shouting. It wasn't that she excelled in general knowledge and awareness. Just some questions and answers: ‘How do you say ‘I love you’ in Italian?’ She answered this question with an unabashed ‘j'adore’. To the question of which artist/installer who packaged buildings with his wife and passed away on May 31 of this year, she said: ‘Jean des Bouvrie’. When Philip Freriks shook his head in disbelief, she added: ‘But he's dead too, right?’

But that's the fun of De Slimste: courage and just shouting get you quite far. Et voilà, there sat that little Wortelboer as the smartest of the day with a nonchalant 'what-do-I-care' raised knee in the most right chair. I'm ready for it again tonight, you know.

Do you want to read about my ordeal at De Slimste? . But the challenge is also to make sure you get your girlfriends to not open that bottle of wine every single time. Find buddies who want to join you for a sober month, then it’s less boring and difficult..
