Christmas make-up a la Sofia Tilbury

If there is a brand that radiates glitter and glamour, it is Charlotte Tilbury, right? And that's what we need for the holidays. I spoke to beauty artist Sofia Tilbury (the niece of) and asked her about the makeup for the most beautiful glowy skin, the trends she would have preferred to skip, and her Christmas look.
What tip have you ever received that has always stuck with you?
I work a lot with my aunt, Charlotte Tilbury. She is full of beautiful and educational advice, which has an invaluable value for me. She is a great mentor. Charlotte not only knows an incredible amount about makeup, she is also a strong and confident woman who always radiates positivity.
What characterizes the Sofia look?
My daily look is often beachy with a golden glow. I am addicted to the Glowing Jen lipstick which makes my lips look fuller than ever, but my absolute favorite is Charlotte’s Airbrush Bronzer: the powder that gives you that sun-kissed look you want, even in winter. By the way, I really love the Pillow Talk lipstick. Charlotte and I have used it so often on celebrities because it suits everyone. You immediately look prettier, fresher, and softer.
What do you always carry in your bag besides your phone?
Besides jewelry, my sunglasses, and face masks, I always have my Hollywood Flawless Filter, Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder, and Magic Lip Oil with me. There have been times when my Uber driver had to turn back because I forgot to take one of the items.
Which makeup can you apply blindfolded?
I think I can apply quite a lot without looking. Definitely a perfect Pillow Talk lip and a quick contour with Charlotte’s Filmstar Bronzer and Glow. I am known for being able to do my makeup in a second if necessary.
Which trend could we have better skipped?
I have a lot of time for all beauty trends, but there has been one trend I can't get around: over-plucked eyebrows. I love a natural, wild, brushed-up eyebrow.
Do you always wear makeup or are there also makeup-free Sundays?
I love makeup-free days. Charlotte's skincare line is so incredible, it has changed my skin so much and minimized my pores. If my day consists of exercising and making phone calls, I apply my Magic Serum, Cream, and Hollywood Flawless Filter for a fresh, spa-like glow.
How long do you usually spend on your morning/evening routine? And applying your makeup?
I always use the time I have. If that's five minutes, I use the Hollywood Flawless Filter, the Magic Away concealer, brush my eyebrows up, and dab my favorite lipstick on my lips.
If I have an hour, I give myself a full red carpet treatment. Starting with a hydrating face mask and then I really take my time for my skincare and makeup.
What is the Christmas beauty look according to you?
Glow on the eyes, lips, skin, everywhere. Even if we may not be partying like we used to, with the Palette of Pops in Dazzling Diamonds you can create a great smoky eye and with the Superstar Glow highlighter you can give your skin a golden glow. During the holidays, I love to wear off-shoulder dresses and tops, and with this highlighter, you can beautifully polish your collarbone and shoulders.
If you could choose one product, which one would it be?
This is SUCH a hard question. But if I really have to choose one, I go for Charlotte’s Magic Cream. If your skin is a bit dull and tired, this is the cream you need. All my celebrity clients are obsessed!
Which makeup look are you most proud of?
I am lucky to have been able to provide many special women with a beautiful look. From Sienna Miller and Salma Hayek to Romee Strijd and Candice Swanepoel; I really can't make a choice. Whether I create a fun, colorful look that fits a designer's collection or challenge myself with a certain look, as long as people love it, I am super proud.
What are the makeup trends we will see in 2021?
I think it’s all about the glow. Glow has never gone out of style, but after 2020 I think everyone will be looking for positivity, confidence, and joy. You can of course best show this with a beautiful glowy skin, lips, and eyes.
