Lils Preggo Talk

Lils Preggo Talk

Heat plan or not: I've never been this warm in my life as I have in the past few days. With my sun FOMO under the air conditioning, this is what my happy summer days currently entail, and it's quite an adjustment as a sun worshipper to the max. This week I want to avoid swollen hands and feet, so I'm trying to circumvent that with the tips below, and I've pre-shopped the 10 most delicious, lightest dresses for bloody hot days for us and I was suddenly surprised by the lovely Amayzine team with a mini baby shower surprise. And oh, how I missed these lovely people due to the corona craziness. Long story short: I'm taking you along.

How do we survive those bloody hot days? Well, like this.

1. Make your own air conditioning with frozen water bottles for your fan. Works like a charm. Just put it in a bowl, otherwise, you'll have quite a wet situation.

2. Take a lukewarm, cold shower before you dive into bed.

3.  Put your pillow in the freezer.

4.  Don't drink ice-cold water but tea. You might not want to think about it, but the heat from the tea actually causes a temporary increase in your body temperature, making your body work like a natural thermostat and cool down a notch.

5. Drink enough in general: about two liters of water a day. And if you're going to down a few glasses, add some extra mint leaves. Mint is refreshing and your taste buds respond to it. In fact, the substance menthol tricks them into thinking it's cold.

6. Oh, and skip coffee. Yes, even iced coffee. Caffeine actually stimulates your sweat glands extra, and that's exactly what you don't want during bloody hot days, right?

7. When sweating, you lose fluids, but also salts that need to be replenished to keep cooling down properly. Watermelon is the #1 fruit that replenishes this deficiency. So eat extra melons. It's also really good for the baby.

8. Treat yourself to a siesta at the hottest moment of the day.

9.  Cotton and satin sheets are a must.

10. Put a wet towel in the fridge and place it on your neck during a hot flash.

11. Doesn't sound very comfy to me, but wet socks or even a wet T-shirt apparently cools you down like crazy.

12. Take a cold foot bath.

13.  Hike yourself into one of these baby bump-proof dresses and skip thick layers of makeup.

And last but certainly not least: if you do step into the sun with your face: watch out for the pregnancy mask. Preventing (or reducing) pigmentation spots is best done by applying, applying, and applying some more. In my case, it's the anti-pigment package from Eucerin. And if you're already shopping, definitely check out the cutest nine-month diary I got from my friends and where I had quite a creative burst this past week – #nualdeknutselmoedervanhetschoolplein – and this genius pillowcase that easily transforms your nursing pillow into a baby-proof pouf.
