Lils Preggo Talk

‘Lil? Don’t you want to write a bit more about your pregnancy?’ ‘Yes, I do want to.’ And the little boy is also up for it. He starts doing a little dance in my belly while I video call with Adeline and Kiki. I am now 24 weeks pregnant, so I have to let go of the time of uncertainty. And although that uncertainty in my case comes from a rough 2019, which I will tell you about when I am totally ready for it, I have learned to believe in the little one, and especially in my own body and mind. Because what started with the first 12 weeks in the hospital, which crawled by slower than a sloth, we are now ticking off a grateful and especially happy 24 weeks of pregnancy via a successful NIPT test and healthy 20-week ultrasound. What is it like to be expecting during the corona craziness? My thoughts, shopping tips, cravings, and much more: I will share it with you every week from now on in Lils Preggo Praat, with today starring: the 20-week ultrasound, the cutest baskets from Kwantum, and the most comfortable maternity dress.

The 20-week ultrasound. Yes, I still want to talk to you about that. Because man oh man, how can a person torture themselves so wonderfully with Google. I read all sorts of things, especially the wrong stories stick with me, resulting in a night full of strange dreams and about six bathroom trips. Once the morning has arrived, I can’t get a bite down and I walk with my boyfriend towards the midwifery practice. The last ultrasound of my previous pregnancy was at exactly the same place with the same sonographer and it was a total mess, which makes this visit extra exciting and emotional for us. At the front door of the practice, there is a note stating that partners must wait outside. Although we already knew this, it’s a bit hard to swallow and I quickly give him a kiss and a ’see you soon, on FaceTime.‘ Once inside, one is nicer than the other, I find out that you cannot (but really: why not?) zoom in with FaceTime and I float out of the midwifery practice on my pink cloud three quarters of an hour later. I try to tell my boyfriend everything as well as I can, although I secretly notice from his reaction that it doesn’t quite come across the same without moving images. But hey, don’t think we have anything negative to say about that. Our baby is perfectly healthy. That is all that matters.

Meanwhile, a month has passed and I think it’s a celebration for everyone who has an appointment with the midwife planned that partners can come along to ultrasounds and pregnancy consultations again starting this week. And you understand: we immediately booked a 3D, 4D, HD, ALL THE WAY, WE DON’T CARE preview. Finally, he can see the little man again. And oh boys, how necessary that is. A case of ‘how men and women come from such different planets, you know’. Yes really, mister right, this is our child who bounces against your girlfriend’s ribcage all day long, he is really already as big as a papaya and no joke: he even has a bit of hair on his head. Ooooh, so looking forward to this outing with my boys next week. And of course, it’s to be continued.
