Never change a winning team… This also applies to successful Netflix series. And yes, when you think of successful series, La Casa de Papel is of course in that top 3. Rightly so, because who doesn't love La Casa de Papel, or Money Heist? Why they sometimes still bother to give a series an English name is a mystery to me, because I know exactly no one who actually calls the series Money Heist. But it is one of the similarities with your new addiction El Robo del Siglo, or The Great Heist.

Because we can say that the creators of this Colombian series have borrowed a little bit here and there from La Casa de Papel. But that doesn't matter if this series becomes just as addictive. And judging by the trailer, it genuinely has a good chance.

First things first: the story. First of all, it is based on a true story, which always gives me a point. No idea why, but it always sounds more interesting and often it is – even though they use the term ‘true story’ quite loosely. In El Robo del Siglo, we go back to 1994, the year the American Bank of Republic was robbed. And not just any robbery; 33 million American dollars were stolen. Quite a hefty amount, yes.

So you can imagine that this caused quite a stir throughout Colombia. The whole country was turned upside down. I must confess that I tried to look up this ‘event’ on Google and I couldn't find anything about a spectacular robbery in Colombia in 1994? Mysterious.

But well, the story does sound very pleasant. If you watch the trailer, you immediately see a man who reminds me a lot of El Professor. Whether El Robo del Siglo will be as cool as La Casa de Papel remains to be seen. Not long to wait though: on August 14, the entire first season will be online. Seems like a great pastime while waiting for season 5 of La Casa de Papel.
