Just dropping off on The Holidate

Oooh, I really didn't do much this weekend again. And especially on Sunday, by the way, because it literally only rained here in Amsterdam. But no problem: we just have UberEATS and Netflix, so we actually don't have to leave the house at all. Or well, I just tell myself that on those kinds of days.
And it was again a high-level Sunday, you know. After quite a few (I've lost count) episodes of Jane The Virgin, I was ready for something new. But not something that required me to use my brain because that wasn't on the agenda today. So it became The Holidate and my god, this one is really ideal for hatewatching. It's actually a fun movie, but at the same time so annoying, exaggerated, and full of clichés. I should really turn it off, but I don't want to because I'm having fun. With hating on the movie, yes. That's the kind of situation it was.
Starting with Emma Roberts, who plays Sloane. Well, sorry, but I find her so annoying. And it probably has to do with the script, but my goodness, she was really a walking cliché. The bitter girl type because she got dumped by her lover. And not even someone she was with for a long time or that it was a meaningful relationship, but still, it was enough to make her the most bitter eighteen-year-old ever. Oh no, sorry, she plays a thirty-year-old in the movie. Hello, where did this go wrong in casting? I refuse to believe that Emma Roberts can genuinely pass for someone that age or that someone that age becomes so bitter and sour after a ‘relationship’ of three months. Okay, that Luc is a jerk, but when we finally see him on screen, doesn't anyone understand why she was so crazy about him in the first place?
And then that language use. So overly coarse talking, especially during her ‘speech’ at the end, it's so misplaced. You can tell that this is not how she normally talks, it comes out so forced. And then it becomes a bit coarse for the humorous value and yes... That wasn't really there for me.
But then there's Jackson. I actually like him. The chemistry between them is completely missing in my opinion. During their first meeting, she can only complain, be bitchy, and/or spout misplaced sarcastic remarks, and still, he gives her his number, in fact: he's convinced that she will call or text him? Any normally thinking man wouldn't even consider giving his number to such a grumpy person. What do you need such negativity in your life for?
But okay, they do have a good time together until Sloane ruins it by not asking Jackson if he wants to stay, while her sister just cheated in her relationship. Okay, they just had sex for the first time, but her sister's problems really should come first, right? I don't understand the whole fuss. ‘Hey sorry Jackson, my sister has created quite a situation and I really need to comfort her and lend a listening ear, shall I call you this afternoon?’ And crisis averted. It can be that easy.
So it didn't go that way and Sloane and Jackson were both hurt in their egos. So unnecessary and obvious, just because that's how it goes in romcom world. Another Une Grande Finale before they get their happy ever after and that doesn't come without a hitch, of course.
Then I have one last comment. Those names. Sloane. Jackson. Nothing wrong with them, but I found them so mismatched with the two actors.
Sooo, the complaining is over. Do you have any recommendations for a movie in the same categories? I've completely mastered hatewatching by now. Love it. Oh god, am I becoming a bitter Sloane myself?
