Oh noooo: these two main characters are leaving Riverdale

Cast Riverdale season 5

Noooo, Riverdale, what are you doing to us? Every week I faithfully watch the latest episode, while I honestly have no idea what it's about anymore. What on earth am I watching? I seriously wonder if the writers of Riverdale even know themselves. Is that brother of Betty good or bad? Is he gay or not? Is Jughead dead? And is that Evelyn back again? Riverdale has become a bit of a parody of what it once was. With the cliffhanger of this fourth season approaching, I am really curious how they are going to tie up all the loose ends.

And the season had, besides the script, already faced some setbacks. Because the actor Luke Perry, or Fred Andrews (the only normal parent in all of Riverdale), suddenly passed away. Very sad, of course. It was striking that Archie seemed to bounce back relatively quickly in the series. He has to, if you are a full-time high school senior, running your father's business AND have your own gym/youth center. Ah, how wonderfully believable Riverdale remains. Maybe I will really drop out by season five.

But if I drop out, it’s probably because two cast members are saying goodbye to the series. WHUT? Yes, really. Those are Hermione Lodge and FP Jones. Yes, the mother of Veronica and the father of Jughead. Are they leaving Riverdale together? A decision that honestly surprises me that it was made solely by Josie. Understandable, but how can they leave those kids behind in this crazy town?

I am very curious what excuse Hermione and FP will come up with for having to leave Riverdale. There will be no parents left for those kids. Just a refresher: Veronica’s father has been trying to kill her boyfriend Archie for three seasons (will he finally succeed without his wife?). And her mother is leaving her hanging? And another refresher: Jughead’s mother had a brief comeback, using Jughead and FP to deal drugs in Riverdale. Okeeee… Come on Riverdale, we’re not letting them go, are we? Skeet Ulrich (FP Jones) says in a statement that he will miss everyone. Well, not as much as we will miss you.
