One in two women in the Netherlands is proud of her appearance

55 percent of Dutch women are proud of their appearance, according to research by Linda.nl among 13,000 women. The sad thing is that my immediate thought upon hearing this research was: wow, that's great. While in fact, it's only half of all women. This immediately says something about how I think about our self-image.
Are you happy with your appearance? A good question, which I actually wish I could ask more often to the women around me. When I ask myself and would answer honestly, I know that there would first be a list of things-that-could-be-better coming, then I feel discomfort because you don't say something like that so quickly, but afterwards I would probably still say yes. I remain my own biggest critic, but I wouldn't want to trade places with anyone, no matter how beautiful I find other women. And believe me: I probably find many women more beautiful than they find themselves.
What stands out to me in the research from LINDA.nl is that the specific statement ‘I find my body beautiful’ is not answered so definitively. Our bodies have to settle for a mediocre ‘well okay’ in 54 percent of cases, while 26 percent of women find their own body beautiful and 20 percent do not at all.
No matter how you think about yourself, it is the beginning of something beautiful, because one in three women indicates that they are less insecure about themselves due to the body positivity movement . And that, that is a beautiful result.
