Oyster Day: is it really an aphrodisiac?

The oyster also has its own day nowadays. We can certainly have all sorts of opinions about it, but it remains a fact. Whether you love them or not, oysters are attributed quite a few aphrodisiac properties. But, does eating oysters really excite you or not?
Casanova apparently ate the shells for breakfast, as he had a lot to keep up. Yet, oysters don't seem to be as libido-enhancing as some might think. How does the story then spread in the world?
