Trends Fall winter lotte van scherpenzeel Mac cosmetics

‘Vrooom vrooom, driving to Fashion Week’, I hear myself singing. Whether it will take place this year is still the big question. But don't worry, because in March the trends for the end of this year were showcased, so for now we're still good. And how, I can tell you. I went through the fall/winter trends with Connie Man from M.A.C Cosmetics. Maybe you're still completely in the summer vibes after all the warm days, but the weather isn't going to get better in the coming weeks, so we can secretly already look at these trends. Especially for you: this is how you can give that bold make-up look an everyday twist and put that eternal red lip in a new outfit.

Your face as an accessory
To be honest: you won't see me walking around with thick stones, pearls, or gold leaf on my face anytime soon. Although, I could still try the last one, but then subtly on my eyes. Or during a festival around my face. But for a ‘normal’ Tuesday? I'll skip that for now. But why actually? Let's look beyond those big stones. A beautiful turquoise eye, bright orange, uncontrolled and not perfect. These looks are an accessory in themselves and are no longer separate from the rest of your outfit. So if your look needs a bit more glitter, then put it on your eyes and keep your bag more basic. Keep it subtle: choose either your eye or your lip, not both. You might not say less is more here, but this trend is anything but too much.

Back to basics
It's not easy to keep your lipstick neatly within the lines all day. Talking, eating, and drinking easily moves it around. Even with a liner, you always have to touch it up. But that movement is allowed this winter. You apply well on the inside and let the outside go a bit wild. Let it ‘bleed’ over the edge to give a new dimension to that old familiar lipstick. The eyeliner doesn't have to be perfect either. By drawing a half, short, or lower line, the classic eyeliner gets a new dimension. Or grab a kohl pencil that you apply around your eye and then smudge, making it look like you still have make-up on from the day before. Ideal, right?

Soft, luxurious, and feminine
You probably know contouring: you create shadows with a few shades darker than your own skin, allowing you to accentuate certain parts and make your face look slimmer. With this trend, that's a thing of the past. The raw is replaced by natural. You won't be applying shadows anymore, but rather brightening your face. Glossy highlighters for your lips, eyes, and cheekbones. When you take a photo with flash, those are the spots that come forward. Just be careful not to use glitter; it's all about the glow. Highlighting may have been around for a while, but it's always seen as something extra, while this time it is precisely the trend. Alone, standing on its own, without additions. Your skin looks healthy and hydrated because of this. Especially in winter, when your skin can sometimes look very dull, this trend is perfect.

Your contouring palette is much more than that
So this is something everyone has. You bought a nice palette with a few shades you like to use and a couple of colors you can't do anything with. But have you ever thought about using those shades for other places? A color that's too brown? Use it as eyeshadow for a natural smokey eye. Too light? Use it as a highlighter under your eyebrow, for example. Too red or too pink? Mix it with a gloss and you have a beautiful color for your lips. So don't throw them away, just use those colors a little differently. A team of specialists has put those shades together in a box because they match so beautifully. Such a waste not to do anything with them, right?
